In a decisive ruling, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles a 3-0 victory over Libya, following Libya’s breach of competition regulations. The match, originally set for October 15, 2024, in Benghazi, was forfeited by Libya after the Libya Football Federation was found in violation of key disciplinary codes.

CAF officials found Libya in breach of Article 31 of the African Cup of Nations Regulations, as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, resulting in the match’s forfeiture and a $50,000 fine for Libya, payable within 60 days.

In a statement, a CAF representative said, “CAF has a responsibility to ensure that all participating teams adhere strictly to the rules, and any violations are met with appropriate sanctions. This ruling reflects our commitment to fairness and integrity in the tournament.”

With the ruling, Nigeria secures three additional points and three goals, significantly boosting their qualification prospects. “This decision is a positive step for us,” a spokesperson from Nigeria’s football federation commented. “It brings us closer to our goal of reaching the African Cup of Nations.”

CAF added that all other motions and requests for relief from Libya were dismissed.
