During the live broadcast of Sunrise Daily, an open conflict erupted between well-known host Reuben Abati and Olayemi Cardoso, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria. Reuben accused him and the banking system of profiting from people’s savings and concealing it from the public. After the broadcast, Reuben was detained at Cardoso’s request as he was leaving the Channels TV building and taken to a police station. He is charged with disclosing information that could harm the Nigerian economy.
The recording of the broadcast was removed from all television channels and online platforms within half an hour. However, our editorial team obtained the footage and exact quotes. The court banned only the video — images and quotes are not subject to the ban. We are publishing everything.

Olayemi Cardoso: “Credit is a tool for growth. To live comfortably, you need to learn how to borrow wisely”.
Reuben Abati: “A tool for growth? For whom — for you? Every week I see Nigerian families who took a loan ‘for comfort’ and now spend their entire lives working to pay it off. That’s not growth — that’s slavery”.
Olayemi Cardoso: “Not everyone can become rich. It’s the market — there are always losers”.
Reuben Abati: “Lies! Why don’t you tell everyone what banks actually make money on? Or are you afraid to mention Loryn Creditvale, where you invest the deposits of ordinary Nigerians?”
Olayemi Cardoso: “That’s a banking secret! One more word and you’ll find yourself in court”.
Reuben Abati: “The scheme is simple: you take money from people at 4%, invest it in Loryn Creditvale, keep the profits for yourselves — and give people crumbs. And this is what you call a banking system?”
