The Christian Association of Nigeria in Nasarawa state has berated the state governor Abdullahi Sule for allegedly working against the appointment of the immediate past deputy governor of the state, Hon. Silas Agara, a Christian as chairman of the National Population Commission.
An online medium report which went viral had reported that the state governor was part of a plan to stop Agara’s nomination by President Mohammadu Buhari as chairman of NPC on religious ground.
The report by the an Online medium said President was under pressure to replace Agara with one Kura, a northerner from Kano state to avoid “handing over the commission to a Christian”.
A source at CAN Secretariat in the state yesterday expressed regret that the Nasarawa state governor, Alhaji Abdullahi Sule was working against Christians in the state.
“We are not surprise with what is contained in the report of Sahara Reporters concerning the plan replacement of Agara’s nomination in the NPC job because the governor (Engr. Abdullahi Sule) has from the onset demonstrated that he is a governor for only Muslims in the state”
“This development has also vindicated us on the point we earlier made that the governor was running a religious government, in view of the appointment of ninety percent of people of his religion faith as members of the state executive council and other positions in his government”
But the twist of event, governor Sule, in a press statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Addra and issued to newsmen in Lafia, yesterday said, there was no iota of truth in the online media report alleging religious discrimination against him, describing the Online report as a desperate attempt to distract his administration from delivering on his promises to the people.
Meanwhile, the online report which went viral has caused anxiety in some quarters as many stakeholders, especially supporters of the former deputy governor were said to be furious about the alleged move to deny him the NPC plumb job.
