Victory for Okowa and Ibori's stranglehold on Delta politics whittled.

TheSupreme Court today October 21, has affirmed Delta Speaker, Oborevwori Sheriff, as the right Governorship candidate for the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Delta State.

This brings to an end the tussle for the coverted candidacy by the camps of the strong man of Delta State politics and former Governor, Onanefe James Ibori and the incubent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

It would be recalled that Ibori wanted his political ptotegee, David Edevwie as the party’s candidate while Okowa stood solidly behind Speaker Oborevwori.

With the outcome of the Supreme’s judgement, Ibori’s stranglehold of Delta politics has been whittled down. While on the other hand the rising profile of Governor Okowa received a big boost. Okowa is presently the running mate of Atiku Abubakar for the presidency of the nation under the umbrella of the PDP.

Ibori is viewed as a kingmaker in Delta politics as he is said to have masterminded the emergence of Okowa as the party’s candidate and eventually becoming governor of the state while he, Ibori was serving jail term in the United kingdom.

However, pundits are of the opinion that if Ibori decides to pull the rug from under the feet of the PDP candidate by throwing his weight behind the APC candidate, in the person of Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, APC may take the state from the PDP that has been in power since the present political dispensation which berthed in 1999.
