Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the expanded State Executive Council (SEC) with immediate effect, following his reinstatement after a six-month suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
The announcement was made by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, on October 1, 2025.
The dissolution affects commissioners, special advisers, and other public officers impacted by a recent Supreme Court judgment.
These officials had served in Fubara’s administration before the declaration of emergency rule on March 18, 2025, which led to their removal from office.
The now-former sole administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), had also suspended all commissioners, advisers, special assistants, boards, and heads of parastatals upon assuming office.
During a valedictory session in Port Harcourt, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members for their contributions to the state’s development over the past two years.
Political observers had speculated that Fubara might retain some high-performing cabinet members, while others noted the potential influence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in shaping the new cabinet, given his role in Fubara’s return to office.
In his address, Fubara emphasized the significance of Nigeria’s Independence, urging citizens to unite with President Tinubu to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serve Rivers State with renewed energy and thanked residents for their support, while extending Independence anniversary greetings to all Nigerians.
