Governor of Nasarawa state, Abudullahi Sule, has warned media practitioners in the state that his administration would not condone undue sensitizational reportage and falsehood against the government.
He stated this on Thursday at the Inauguration of the remodeled Press center at the Government House, the Lafia, the capital, saying Journalists must be guided by the ethnics and ethoes of the Journalism profession.
The governor said that his administration was unaware of the independent of the media,hence the renovation of the NUJ press center in the state the hosting of the first media dinner for Journalists in the state.
Sule promised that his government would continue to provide the needed atmosphere for practicing Journalists in the state to carry-out their reportorial duties with ease, saying his administration would replace the press crew vehicle and install Internet facility at the remodeled Press center at the Government House to ease media work.
” it is pertinent to state that Government is not unaware of your support to its development agenda of turning around the fortunes of the people of Nasarawa State. I must say that without the media support, our development aspirations would not have been visible. Indeed, your role has continued to set agenda in our determination to entrench an all-inclusive governance for the benefit of our people”
” remodeling of this edifice is informed by our desire to provide conducive environment for the Government House Press Crew and other related press activities to enhance the execution of your responsibility in the most effective and proficient manner. In the same vein, Government also renovated and furnished the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) complex. We have also allocated five (5) houses to the State Council of the NUJ in Karu, among other logistics support”
” In furtherance of our commitment to appreciate the efforts and contributions of journalists in the State, we have organized End of the Year Media Award Night, last year. This was to recognize outstanding performance of our journalists who have excelled in their field of endeavour. Government will continue to support the effort of journalism, but not intended to cow you to play a subservient service to the Government. We shall continue to cherish objective and constructive criticisms in the delivery of our mandate to the good people of Nasarawa State”
” let me state that this Administration is not unaware of the independence of the press in the discharge of its statutory obligations. In this regard, we shall continue to encourage our members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm to discharge their onerous responsibilities to the society considering the critical role the media plays in information dissemination and enlightenment of the citizenry, particularly on Government policies and programmes. I must however, implore you to be guided by the dictate and rule of engagement in the due discharge of your responsibility to the society”
” I need to however warn that, Government will not condone undue sensationalization of reportage and falsehood of any kind. You must be guided by the ethics of journalism profession in carrying out your assignment”
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Sule, Ibrahim Addra, informed that the Government House press center was in dilapidated condition before his assumption of office as the chief press secretary.
He appealed to the governor provide internet facility at the press center as well, replaced the press crew bus and other logistics for ease and more effective and efficient performance of the both crew members and other Journalists covering the state.
