As calls for the sack of Gernot Rohr from his Super Eagles’ head coach job mounts, ex-international, Austin “Jay Jay” Okocha has indicated his readiness to take up the job if given the offer.
We can authoritatively report that calls to sack Rohr intensified following the lacklustre performance of the Super Eagles in the November double header 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against the Leone Stars of Sierra-Leone which ended 4-4 and 0-0 respectively.
As a result of the poor showing in both games, most football followers in the country have opined that the German tactician lacks what it takes to tutor the Super Eagles to greatness.
However, Okocha, while speaking in a live sports radio programme in Lagos was asked whether he wouldaccept the Super Eagles’ top job if given the offer and his response was affirmative.
“Of course, I’ll accept it if I’m offered the job. It’s a call to national duty and I’ll be happy to do my best for the country.
The Super Eagles are a great side and It offers great opportunity for any coach to excel. It’ll be a great experience for me if such offer comes and I won’t reject it,” said the former Super Eagles captain.
