A mobile court sitting in Lafia the Nasarawa state capital has convicted 57 persons over sanitary matters.
The chief prosecuting officer, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed told newsmen in an interview after the sanitation exercise that offenders were prosecuted based on their various offences.
He explained that the offences include among others: operating business and loitering during sanitation exercise between the hours of 7 am – 10am on Saturday.
The chief prosecutor said that enforcement teams were deployed at entery points to check interstate travellers passing through the state during the sanitation hours.
Alhaji Mohammed who applauded residents of the state particularly inhabitants of Lafia, the state capital for compliance with the sanitation law, stressed that enforcement would be intesified in the next exercise.
He vowed that the mobile court would not spare violators caught, saying any one caught would be punished in accordance with the sanitation laws of the state.
In separate interview, chairman, Nasarawa state House of Assembly Standing committee on Environment, Hon. Luka Zhekaba said the long arm of the law would apply on violators of the state’s sanitation laws.
He assured that enforcement would be intensified in the next exercise to ensure that every citizen of the state participate in sanitation exercises.
The Lawmaker urged citizens of the state to see sanitation exercises as an obligation and not waiting to be forced to keep their surroundings clean.
