NAN set to embark on Strike over poor welfare, others

In an unprecidented move, members of staff of the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN), have concluded plans to embark on a 3day warning strike to commence minute after midnight of Wednesday July 25, 2018.
In a statement made available to PenPushers and signed by the three leaders of the union that make up the chapel, Mrs. Yetunde Bada, Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Chairman, AUCPTRE, Suleiman Haruna and
Chairman RATTAWU, Daniel Akaphiare said staff had earlier written the Management and gave a 7-day notice to address their demands.
The union demands include: implementation of Condition of Service that was last reviewed 16 years ago; Payment of Promotion Arrears for 2012 and 2017 and payment of shortfall of promotion arrears of 2014, 2015 and 2016
Others are payment of duty tour allowance, DTA, and hotel allowances to staff that left
their base to write the 2018 Promotion Examination in Lagos and Abuja. Also, is
non payment of repatriation allowances to foreign correspondents; in the demands of training of staff to enhance efficiency and effectiveness; payment of overtime arrears for drivers and arrears of Transportation Allowance to staff of editorial department.
The staff of the agency will down tools on July 25 midnight if their
demands were not met.
