Nasarawa State Government has reiterated its commitment to the promotion of grassroot football development in the state.
Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Kwanta Yakubu stated this at the commencement of the 9th edition of Mailafia Peace and Unity Football tournament in Daddere.
Thirty two (32) Teams numbering 400 local Players and technical crew would battle each other for the coveted Trophy within three months.
Defending Champions, Thunder FC of Agyaragu traded tackles with ‘Greater Tomorrow of Lafia’ which saw some cutting edge trills and drills that gave the spectators excitement of watching classical grassroot football at its best.
After an intense fight for possession and control, Greater Tomorrow took the lead, however,the defending Champions, Thunder FC capitalized on a silly and suicidal mistake of the goalkeeper of Greater tomorrow to level-up and at the tale end of the game Greater Tomorrow scored their second goal, making the game more entertaining as it ended 2-1.
The commissioner praised sponsor of the tournament for investing in grassroots football and directed the Management of Nasarawa United Fc to work closely in selecting future players assured of government readiness to support the laudable initiative.
Sangarin Shabu ,Umar Mahmud Bwalla and the Chairman for the annual Competition, Muhammad Dan Azumi and Sole Administrator of Daddere Administrative Area commended the sponsor of the tournament
Sponsor of the tournament, ACP Yakubu Agabi Mailafia, said sponsorship of the tournament was a deliberate effort to compliment goverment effort in promoting grassroots football, as well promote peace and unity among the diverse communities in the senatorial districts.
ACP Mailafia appreciated stakeholders for believing in the projects, and encouraged the players to give in their best, assured of sustained sponsorship of the tournament.
