The struggle to make the current Comptroller General of the Federal Fire Service, Joseph Anebi vacate office took another dimension yesterday, as a non governmental organisation, NGO, “The citizens advocacy for social and economic rights” CASER, has threatened to institute legal actions against him.
In a letter to the secretary to the government of the federation made available to PenPushers, the executive director of the centre Mr Frank Tietie stated that Mr Anebi’s continued stay in office after attaining 35 years in service negated the rule guiding the nations public service.
Mr Tietie maintained that the Controller General whose 35 years mandatory service terminated on Friday, 31 August, 2018 ought to have handed over the affairs of the Service to his second in command contrary in line with the Public Service rule 020810.
The citizens advocacy for social and economic rights therefore called on the federal government to avoid creating a dangerous and unproductive precedent by allowing the retired fire chief to remain in office.
CASER insists that the continued stay in office of Mr Anebi paints the current administration in bad light.
Mr tietie stated that the situation in the federal fire service has created confusion and low morale in the staff of the service who have all been stagnated because of Mr Anebi’s flagrant violation of the law.
“There has been reports of confusion and apprehension amongst staff of the Federal fire service since last week friday when the the comptroller general Mr Joseph Anebi attained the 35 years mandatory retirement age” The statement added..
Anebi had however told staffers that he was expecting an anticipatory 4-month extension of Service.
