* a perspective we must zoom into

By, Ekimogun Elites.

Honourable Abiola Makinde’s aspiration for a third term is firmly grounded in visible achievements, impactful representation, and strategic leadership that have transformed lives across his constituency. Over the past two terms, he has gone beyond legislative duties to deliver tangible, people-oriented projects across education, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and social welfare. There is no doubt that his aspiration lies in moving to the red chamber, and as such, his time will come. In preparation for that time, and considering his performance, he should be allowed to continue and seek the position of the House of Representatives for Ondo East and Ondo West. He should be given the first right of refusal based on his performance, and no one can say in the Kingdom that he has not done so well. The good people of the Ondo Kingdom should not lose sight of the bigger picture because of the mere actions of some selfish politicians who have seen real and proven governance not as a style but as business as usual. His proven performance and tangible results cannot be overruled, cannot be discarded because of a pot of porridge. Hon. Makinde has distinguished himself as a driven leader whose contributions are evident across Ondo West and East. His developmental footprint includes the construction of a modern library in Ondo town, aimed at promoting academic excellence and research culture among youths. He has also facilitated the upgrading of four motor parks, improving transportation systems, boosting local commerce, and enhancing urban renewal. In addition, his solar lighting projects across communities have significantly improved security, extended business hours, and enhanced the quality of life for residents. These are not promises; they are indeed his commitment towards his people, completed, functioning projects that speak to his capacity to deliver.

His commitment to Education and human capital development has remained a cornerstone of his representation Hon. Makinde has provided scholarships for Ondo indigenes both within Nigeria and abroad, creating opportunities for global exposure and academic advancement. His legislative influence was instrumental in the bill to upgrade Adeyemi College of Education to a Federal University, which is a pride of the kingdom today, a landmark achievement that will permanently elevate educational access and prestige in the kingdom. Furthermore, the establishment of artisan skill acquisition centers, which was appropriated in 2025, reflects his commitment to equipping youths with practical skills, reducing unemployment, and fostering self-reliance. Hon. Makinde is one who understands the economic realities of his constituents, has facilitated employment opportunities and provided small-scale funding support for businesses and entrepreneurs. Understanding the economic realities of his constituents, these interventions have strengthened local economies, empowered families, and reduced poverty levels across the constituency.

There is no doubt that disrupting this progress risks slowing down the developmental momentum achieved over the past 8 years. With two terms of legislative experience, Hon. Makinde has built strong networks within the National Assembly and federal institutions, enhancing his ability to attract federal projects and to advocate effectively for his constituency. His voice carries weight, and his influence translates into real benefits for his people in Ondo West and Ondo East. Years of direct engagement have given him a clear understanding of his constituents’ challenges and priorities, ranging from unemployment and infrastructure gaps to educational needs. This insight enables him to design targeted, sustainable, and impactful interventions, which have always been supported by the DROMI and his amiable wife in this project to uplift the poor. He believes that the daughter of a cocoa farmer can be a doctor, and the son of a timber seller in Lomitoto, Bolunduro, Laje to Lasia can be an engineer.

The stability, party loyalty, and leadership qualities of Hon. Makinde, which he embodies, are essential to continuity in governance. Development thrives on consistency and continuity, and his leadership provides a reliable pathway for sustained growth. Moreover, party supremacy remains sacrosanct, and his alignment with party ideals ensures unity, discipline, and coordinated progress within the political structure. We cannot continue to sell the narrative of saying no to a term; saying yes to a third term is achievable and necessary for the sustainable growth of our kingdom. We cannot start all over again; the experience gained in the last 8 years should not be seen as a tea party. In conclusion, my dear brothers and sisters, the fact that a mistake was made in the past by not allowing a sitting member to contest more than 3 times, which has not really done the community any good, would be a disaster if we still make the same mistake today by not allowing the working honourable Abiola Makinde to continue. As such, a vote for Honourable Abiola Makinde is a vote for proven performance, visible development, and reliable leadership. This is testified to by our mothers in the marketplaces, the old people who receive stipends monthly, and the poor on the streets of Yaba, Kolawole, and Babagbe communities. Granting him a third term will enable him to consolidate these achievements, expand ongoing projects, and unlock greater opportunities for accelerated development, stronger representation, and a more prosperous future for the Ondo kingdom.

I drop my pen by saying “Forging ahead for prosperity, and lest we forget the past, let us correct the past, let us build the future, and let us join hands together to build a better, greater, and sustainable future for the Ondo Kingdom”. Prosperity beacons on all of us to do the right thing.
