As President Bola Tinubu is reportedly taking steps to rejig his cabinet, reports have it that George Akume may be replaced as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
Sources within the government indicate that Akume, a former Governor of Benue State, has been criticized as the least effective SGF in recent history, failing to drive efficiency within government agencies and parastatals.
Concerns about Akume’s performance have been linked to allegations of excessive alcohol consumption, specifically his reported fondness for Burukutu, a local alcoholic beverage. Insiders claim that his frequent presence in the office while under the influence has contributed to tensions, particularly with Hadiza Bala Usman, who has taken on significant responsibilities typically associated with the SGF role.
As these developments unfold, the administration appears to be evaluating Akume’s position to enhance operational effectiveness within the government.
