A member representing Keana constituency in the Nasarawa state House of Assembly, Hon. Adamu Omadefu, has advocated for the provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to media practitioners to protect them against infection of coronavirus while carrying out their reportorial duties.
He made the advocacy when presenting percels of facemasks to members of the Correspondents chapel of the Nigeria of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa state council, Sunday.
The lawmaker argued that as frontline workers in the fight against coronavirus, journalists deserved to be provided with Personal Protective Equipment and some stimulus to motivate them in the discharge of their duties.
Hon. Omadefu who is House committee chairman on Information praised the role of media practitioners in sensitising the public on coronavirus said he decided to embark on advocacy visit to media houses in the state to sensitise the public on coronavirus and the need to adhere to precautinary gears to prevent the spread of the disease.
Receiving the items, chairman of the Correspondents chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa state council, Isaac Ukpoju, applauded the lawmaker for the item, saying they would go along way in assisting journalists to protect themselves while at work.
