A mobile court sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, on Saturday sentenced 19 persons for flauting environmental sanitation Law of the state.
The Chief Prosecution Officer, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed disclosed this while briefing newsmen shortly after the monthly sanitation exercise on Saturday, said the offenders were apprended by the state taskforce during enforcement of the sanitation exercise.
He said the state goverment would continue to adopt stringent measures to ensure enforcement of the state Environmental Sanitation Laws inview of the incresing cases of flooding in some parts of the state.
Also briefing newsmen shortly after monitoring the Saturday’s environmental sanitation, Nasarawa state Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Musa Ibrahim blamed flodding on human activities by some residents who erect structures on waterway and indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages.
He warned residents of the state to disist from provoking the environment, noting that would would nolong tolerate such practises as anyone cought would be apprended and prosecuted.
The commissioner said that government would continue to strengthen all the environmental mobile courts set up to prosecute offenders to achieve the objectives of the sanitation laws of the state.
Ibrahim lauded the media for adequately sensitization and coverage of the activities of the ministry especially the monthly sanitation exercise.
