Philip Shaibu, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, has shed light on his strategic and calculated approach to his governorship ambition amid the tension between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In an interview with TVC, Shaibu emphasized the importance of Governor Obaseki’s support in his bid to become Governor. He explained that his composure and refusal to react adversely to the attacks against him and the incident where Governor Obaseki snubbed his greeting in Church were due to this need for support. He stated that even if Governor Obaseki were to slap him in public, he would not retaliate or attack the Governor in any way
In Shaibu’s words: “So my strategy is that If Obaseki slaps me in public like he did in Church where he refused my greeting, no problem. I won’t be angry; I will move on. So my strategy was just there and people actually misunderstood that strategy, some even thought I had given up and I would not contest the election until I declared”
