Media professionals under the umbrella of Sustainable Media Advocacy Foundation (SMAF) in Nasarawa state, have resolved to partner donor agencies with community driven initiative on public heath, climate change and other development initiatives aim to promote the wellbeing of people in the society.
The resolution was reached at a review meeting of the group powered by The Challenge Initiative, (TCI) and Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHDA), held yesterday in Lafia, the state capital.
Speaking during the meeting, Chairman of Sustainable Media Advocacy Foundation (SMAF), Kalu Edika, said that the meeting was organised primarily to review activities of the body and chat a way forward.
He explained that the objectives of the body which includes; To promote.media engagement for sustainable development, promote, design, organise and conduct relevant training and development programmes for communities and assist in the promotion of any organization body having similar objectives would not be achieved without periodic review of activities of the body and chatting a way forward.
The chairman said that the body which undertook many activities in the past has enjoyed techilnical support from The Challenge Initiative (TCI), PARTFINDER International and Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHDA), was open for genuine partnership with local and international donor agencies and governments on issues of development that benefits humanity
Edika who loaded the members of the foundation for the sacrifice made in registering the body with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), urged them to be committed to the growth and development of the foundation at all time.
Also speaking, Executive Secretary, Nasarawa State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NAPHDA) Muhammed Usman Adis informed that a society without effective media collaboration is doomed.
Represented by state health educator, Ishaya Amegwa, Dr. Adis commended the Journalists for their effective reportage of activities of the agency, promiseing to partner with the body to promote public health awareness programmes and other related issues in the state.
Nasarawa State Coordinator of The Challenge Initiative (TCI), Deborah Samaila, urged the Journalists to put local communities in the center of their reportage especially in creating awareness on public heath and other sudry issues for the good of all.
Represented by a Senior official of The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Abuja, Timothy Rotimi, the TCI state coordinator informed that TCI which had undertaken a number of technical support activities in the state in the past three years would wind up it’s activities on November 28, calling on stakeholders in the state to sustain the project.
