Obaseki secures presidential pardon for Ambrose Alli*

After months of probing and lobbying, the Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki has secured presidential pardon for former Governor of Bendel State, Prof. Ambrose Alli.

Prof. Alli governed Bendel State from 1979 to 1983. After the Military took over in 1983, he was prosecuted and sentenced to 100 years in prison by a military tribunal. He was later released on bail.

Governor Obaseki, who has maintained that his policies and programmes mirror those of Prof. Alli, had said he was working actively to get the President to exercise his Prerogative of Mercy in pardoning Prof. Alli.

The Presidential Pardon was announced today by Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola during a briefing on Thursday, April 9, 2020.

Others granted pardon are: Chief Anthony Enahoro; ex- Lt. Colonel Moses Effiong; Major E.J. Olarenwaju and Ajayi Olusola Babalola.
