*THE MIDWEST MOVEMENT OF EDO AND DELTA STATES MOURNS THE TRANSITION TO GLORY OF CHIEF ANTHONY AKHAKON ANENIH, CFR.*

_”When beggars die, there are no comets seen;_
_The heavens themselves blaze forth the death of princes.”_
– William Shakespeare (Julius Caesar)

The MIDWEST MOVEMENT – a vanguard of professionals, academicians, entrepreneurs, politicians and patriots drawn from both DELTA & EDO States, mourns the transition to glory of *Chief Anthony Akhakon Anenih, CFR, * Iyase of Esanland, former Minister of Works and Housing, Chairman of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), and former Chairman Board Of Trustees of the PDP.

For almost six decades, Chief Tony Anenih, CFR served his fatherland; from his days as Police Aide to the first Governor General of Nigeria, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, through his years as a Commissioner of Police before joining fulltime Politics, where he helped define and shape the socio-political landscape of Nigeria.

Since his entrance onto the political scene as Chairman of the Bendel State Chapter of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) where he midwifed the emergence of Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia as civilian Governor of Bendel State (now Delta and Edo States) in 1983, Chief Anenih’s mercurial rise to the zenith of national politics in Nigeria defied the limitations of his Uzenema-Arue birthplace in Uromi, Edo State.

As National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), he superintended the electoral victory of Chief M.K.O. Abiola before the inglorious annulment of that historic election of June 12, 1993. Through the years, Chief Anthony Akhakon Anenih, CFR, was arguably the most influential national political figure of Midwest (Edo/Delta) extraction.
With heavy hearts, we the members of the Midwest Movement pray for the repose of the soul of our illustrious father, while commiserating with his family, children and followers. Our condolences also go to his first son, and a founding member of the Midwest Movement, *Mr. Tony Anenih, Junior.* Indeed, our hearts go out to you and your siblings during this difficult time. As you mourn, we mourn with you. Papa lived a life of fulfillment, and his achievements are signposts in our history as a people.

May the Good Lord Rest Pa Anenih’s soul in Perfect Peace. Amen.

Signed:
Dr. Don Pedro Obaseki
