The Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Federal government has announced the removal of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun with Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunji Disu expected to take over from him.

Egbetokun was asked to step down during a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Sources say the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Tunji Disu is expected to take over, and preparations for a formal handover ceremony have already started.

Though there has not been any official announcement yet, however, insiders from both the Presidency and the Nigeria Police Force say that arrangements for the transition are being finalized.

Egbetokun became the 22nd Inspector-General of Police when President Tinubu appointed him on June 19, 2023. The Nigeria Police Council confirmed his appointment on October 31, 2023.

His removal is likely to lead to major changes in the police force’s leadership.

Meanwhile, Governor of Bayelsa state, Senator Duoye Diri has nominated Pereotubo Akpe as Deputy Governor and got the approval of the state House of Assembly, Tuesday.

The appointment ends months of speculation over who would succeed the late Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on December 11, 2025.

Dr. Akpe, a former Majority Leader of the State House of Assembly, hails from Ebedebiri community in Sagbama Local Government Area, the same area as his predecessor.
