UNIBEN PROFESSOR, FRIDAY OKONOFUA ELECTED INTO U S – BASED NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MEDICINE.

Renown reproductive health expert, Professor Friday Okonofua, has been elected into the U S – based National Academy of Medicine.

Election into the Academy is considered as the highest honour in the fields of health and medicine and only professionals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to global health and development issues are so recognised.

The Academy listed reasons for Okonofua’s election to include the global scholar’s leadership of national and international researches in intervention strategies for preventing maternal mortality, and for his works’ impact on policies and programmes in African countries.

Professor Okonofua, the Leader of the Centre of Excellence in Reproductive Health Innovation; CERHI, and Director, World Bank Projects, University of Benin, has led series of impactful researches, and has published over three hundred and sixty (360) journal articles and authored four books among others.

The Professor of Obstetrics and gynaecology is the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the University of Medical Sciences, Ondo State, Nigeria, a Fellow of the Takemi Fellowship of Harvard University, USA, and is currently the Secretary – General of the highly rated African Academy of Sciences with headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

He is expected to be decorated with the award in the United States at a later date.
