Coup in Gabon foiled

The take over of government by junior military officers in Gabon was been foiled.

This is as the officers involved in the botched coup have all been arrested except one who government has assured will be arrested soonest.

The government of President Ali Bongo has called for calm just as the president recuperates in a foreign hospital after suffering from stroke.

The Bongos have been in power in the oil rich West African nation for 50 years with Ali taking over from his late father, Omar in 2009.

Penpushers recall that junior military officers had seized the state radio and Television stations yesterday announcing a change in government, saying they took the action to restore democracy.

However, news have it that the gendarms that keeps watch over the radio and TV stations have regained control of the station.
