The Federal Government of Nigeria may have bowed to pressure from different quarters as it has extended the date for the use of the old 500 and 1000 notes.
In a release, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, said the old notes will be in use alongside the new ones till May 1.
This will come as a huge relief to the citizenry who have been groaning under economic hardship as a result of scarcity of the new notes.
However, this new move by the FG may be to the advantage of politicians who have stockpiled the notes for use in buying votes during the forthcoming general elections with the presidential election coming up this Saturday.
