The governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Chief David Lyon is ahead of his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Douye Diri as unit results trickled in after Saturday’s governorship election.

Generally, unit results showed that Lyon was leading the PDP Candidate, Douye Diri, in Southern Ijaw, Nembe, Brass, Ogbia, Ekeremor, and most areas in Yenagoa, local government areas.

The results further showed that Diri was not doing well at his Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area as most units especially in Odi and Kaiama voted for Lyon. Read More: Lyon leads in Bayelsa

Jonathan’s kinsmen celebrate PDP’s defeat

Kinsmen of former President Goodluck Jonathan in Kolo, Ogbia Local Government Area trooped out to celebrate the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 9.

Two persons have been shot at Egume Police Station Polling Unit, Dekina LGA.
It was also gathered that violence has broken out in at least four polling centres in Lokoja, the state capital.

Lyon hails INEC, says process peaceful

The Bayelsa State Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief David Lyon, has described the ongoing election in the state as peaceful.

Lyon, who hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct so far, advised the people to remain peaceful throughout the exercise.

Casting his vote at Olugbobiri Ward 4, Unit 1, in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Lyon said nobody should create problems to disrupt the poll.

INEC official abducted in Lokoja

An unidentified official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been abducted in SUBEB polling unit in Lokoja.

The abduction occured after gunmen shot sporadically into the air while voting was going on.

It was gathered voters scampered for safety before the gunmen went away with the official.
Meanwhile, voting has ended at Bishop Crowther LGEA Primary School Lokoja.

Sorting of votes and counting of ballots will commence by 2pm.

Hoodlums shoot, snatch ballot box in Anyigba

Some political thugs have stormed some polling units and snatched away ballot boxes in Anyigba in Dekina local government area of Kogi State

Anyingba, believed to be a volatile area, it was observed has the highest level of security presence in the entire local government.

According to a source in the area thugs arrived the polling units in cars shooting sporadically, scaring voters and making away with the ballot boxes.

Voting ends in Kogi LG

Some of the polling units in Kabba Bunu have concluded voting and awaiting the official closing time of 2.00 pm before the commencement of vote counting.

Aside from the incident in Ayetoro Gbede, The Nation can report that the election has been generally peaceful in most areas of Kogi West, especially in Kabba Bunu and Ijumu local government areas

Former president, Goodluck Jonathan and wife has voted at their Polling Unit 39, Ward 13, in Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa.

He had earlier decried the late arrival of election materials in his unit.

Kogi youths attack Journalists

Youths of Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu attacked a group of Journalists at Dino’s polling unit and broke the windscreen of the Sienna space bus they were travelling with.

The youths also made burn fire and blocked the roads with heavy stones and sticks.

At the time of this report, many of the youths were seen gathered in clusters discussing the development, while a team of policemen were seen heading to the town.

The Nation noticed that the box containing votes cast for the Senatorial election was broken and left behind while that of the governorship was taken away.

Senator Melaye could not be reached for his comment even though he was within the town.

Thugs have just attacked the polling unit where Dino Melaye voted.

The hoodlums broke one of the ballot boxes and carted away the other, shooting into the air.

Fake policeman arrested in Kogi
A fake police officer has been arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force at the Igala Unity Square area in Anyigba, Dekina local government area of Kogi State.The fake policemen, dressed in black T-shirt and black trousers with a black jacket with SARS inscribed on it was accosted by a team of actual Special Anti Robbery Squad officers who were on patrol in the area.

When accosted and upon inquiry, it was realised he was not a policeman as he claimed to be and was immediately arrested and taken away in the bus.

Kogi polls: Large turnout of voters witnessed at Ward 01, Yagba West

A large turnout of voters is being witnessed at Ward 01, Polling Unit 003, Rest House One, Agbada, Yagba West, as the citizens trooped out to exercise their franchise in the governorship election in Kogi.

Accreditation of the voters has already begun at the ward and other polling centres in the township, and the process is going on smoothly.

A voter, Bayo Ajayi, described the exercise as “very peaceful at the moment, as there is no distraction from any where”.

Kogi poll: Accreditation commences at Ward A Lokoja peacefully
Accreditation at Ward A Polling Station, Growther/ Sabongari, Lokoja, was on at 8.35 a.m. when a correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) visited the polling station.

Voters were seen checking their names on the register pasted on the walls of Growther Memorial College, Lokoja, while others lined up, orderly, to be accredited.

The exercise was peaceful and orderly.

Men and officers of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Commission(FRSC), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Customs Service, among other security outfits kept vigil to ensure maintenance of law and order.

Security at the unit was relaxed as the voters conducted themselves in a peaceful manner.

When The Nation got to the polling unit at about 8.02am, the polling agents and security men were already on ground.

The people were busy trying to identify their names on the list of registered voters pasted at the gate.
