In a major victory for security forces and a huge relief for families across Nigeria, all 42 students and 7 teachers abducted from schools in Oyo State’s Oriire Local Government Area on May 15 have been safely rescued in a daring joint operation early this morning.
According to the Oyo State Governor, the rescue was carried out by a combined team of Nigerian Army, Police, and the newly deployed 1,000 forest rangers approved by President Bola Tinubu. Sources say intelligence from local hunters and advanced drone surveillance played a key role in locating the bandits’ hideout deep in the forest.
Eyewitnesses reported emotional scenes as the children, aged 2 to 16, were reunited with their parents. One rescued teacher, who lost a colleague during the initial attack, described the ordeal as “hell on earth” but praised the bravery of the security operatives.
