PRESS RELEASE: Ewu Kingdom Delegation Presents Kingship Blueprint to Edo State Government

In a significant display of unity and traditional protocol, a high-powered delegation from the Ewu (Eilu) Kingdom on Tuesday 23rd June, 2026, visited the Edo State Government House in Benin City to formally intimate the administration on the procedures for installing a new Onojie (King) for the ancient kingdom.

 

The delegation, which comprised members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of the Ewu Development Association (EDA National), high-ranking Chiefs, elders, women, youths, and members of the royal family, was received by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Yakubu Musa, who represented Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo.

 

*The Purpose of the Visit*

Leading the delegation, the President of the Ewu Development Association (EDA National), Pst. Emmanuel E. Iriogbe, who officially prayed for peace in Ewu and Edo State, thanked the Governor for the audience.

In a formal presentation, the General Secretary of EDA, Dr. Batholome Okogbousu, read a detailed two-page document chronicling the history of kingship installations in Ewu Kingdom since the colonial era. The delegation firmly communicated that the entire Ewu community—both at home and in the diaspora— *is solidly behind Barr. Razaq Ojeifo Isesele III as the substantive Onojie.* The document confirmed that Barr. Isesele has successfully completed all the traditional rituals and processes required to ascend the throne.

 

*Appreciation for the Governor*

The delegation also took the opportunity to express profound gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for his administration’s developmental strides, particularly praising the *ongoing road construction projects connecting Eko, Idunwele, Eguare, and Ehanlen* . They also thanked the Governor for his commitment to inclusive governance, citing the appointment of capable Ewu sons and daughters into prominent positions of authority.

 

Reaffirming their commitment to peace, the delegation assured the Governor that Ewu remains a peace-loving community dedicated to harmonious coexistence.

 

As a symbolic gesture, three copies of a historical book—published by the Ewu Development Association detailing the traditional process of kingship installation—were formally presented to the Governor.

 

*Government’s Response*

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Governor, the Chief of Staff, Hon. Yakubu Musa, lauded the peaceful and orderly conduct of the Ewu people.

 

” *The Governor, who is a proud son of Esan will be delighted by the maturity and unity displayed by this delegation,”* Hon. Musa stated. “His Excellency is deeply interested in ensuring peace across the entire state to facilitate the delivery of democratic dividends to all Edo citizens.”

 

Hon. Musa assured the delegation that the documents and the historical books presented would be delivered directly to Governor Okpebholo upon his arrival, promising a thorough review of their appeal.

 

The meeting, characterized by mutual respect and decorum, concluded with a group photograph featuring the Chief of Staff and the distinguished delegation from Ewu Kingdom.

 

A New Dawn for Ewu

With the processes now officially on the Governor’s desk and the community standing united behind Barr. Razaq Ojeifo Isesele III, the people of Ewu Kingdom are optimistic about a new era of progress, peace, and cultural renaissance under the watchful eyes of the Edo State Government.
